‘Don’t turn around’ is a cardboard cut collograph designed, drawn and hand printed by me.
I was listening to the radio, to coverage of the Windrush Enquiry, and I was drawn to the strength of a woman as she told her story. What struck me about her was that despite the injustice and unfairness she had endured, she seemed to draw strength from looking forward, not back. She chose not to be consumed by the past, but by the hope of her future. So this piece is inspired by her.
I started with a drawing, which I transferred onto mount board. I carved the design into the board, peeling away layers to hold more ink. I then inked the cardboard plate by hand using the intaglio method, and then printed it on my etching press in my home studio. I used Akua Intaglio ink and Southbank Course 310gsm acid free paper. The image is 10cm square on 15cm square paper. It is a limited edition of only 6 and hand printed so there may be small subtle differences on each one. The print is signed and editioned by me, the artist.
2nd class postage by Royal Mail is included in the price and will be shipped between strong card. The print will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
The sale of the print does not transfer the rights to the image or the copyright which remain the property of the artist, Pamela Mulholland.
